When your home's water and plumbing will not be used for a long time, turn off your home's water supply at the main valve. You should also be sure to turn off your washing machine if no one is at home to keep an eye on it, just in case it malfunctions and causes water to spill onto the floor. Keep at least three inches between your washing machine and the wall so none of the hoses get kinked.
Have your home's water lines inspected. You can do it yourself if you have the know-how, or you can call in a professional company to get this done by an expert. Either way, keeping up with routine maintenance and making sure you inspect them every once in awhile could save you time, money and hassle in the long run.
Be sure to check all water lines and hoses for any cracks, breaks or tears. If you see any, be sure to have them replaced or repaired as soon as possible.
