That’s why we would like to take a minute to discuss some of these issues so that you can know exactly what to look for and what to avoid when it comes to your water and sewer systems.

Water Systems
  • If you’re experiencing a rust-brown tint in your water, this could be a sign that there is an issue with your water line. The discoloration can happen because of the type of pipes you have, corrosion, or even dirt and soil entering through the cracks.
Sewer Systems
  • A major cause of sewer line backups is when unflushable items going down the toilet. While some wipes are even labeled as “flushable,” they are are not biodegradable, and as a result are getting stuck in pipes and creating very expensive clogs. To avoid these issues, make sure no one flushes anything down the toilet other than waste and toilet paper. Even personal hygiene items should not be flushed. Too much of this and you might need to look into sewer system repair.
  • And then there are tree roots. Were you aware that over half of all sewer line backups are due to tree root invasions? Roots like to grow in loose soil, which often surrounds sewer lines. And, roots are also constantly seeking water, which exists in your sewer line. Once they’ve broken into your sewer line, the roots continue to grow which cause pipes to crack and ultimately collapse.
  • Grease. Even a small amount of grease can cause drains to back up. Always collect grease from your kitchen in a separate glass container. Never throw it down your sink drain or down a toilet. You should also always use a back-flow prevention device. This will help keep the water moving in the correct direction.

And, over time, water and sewer systems can simply wear out from old age. When corrosion sets in, the pipe starts to form leaks that will only continue to spread. Water and sewer system repair is likely the only way to stop this corrosion from spreading further.
